An attorney with the New York City office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, John T. Gaffney has legal experience spanning more than three decades. Graduating from New York University in the mid 1980s with both an MBA and juris doctor, John T. Gaffney began work as a lawyer with Cravath, Swaine & Moore, LLP, where he handled divestitures, joint ventures, M&A, and capital markets casework.
Mr. Gaffney ultimately left Cravath in 2008 and assumed responsibilities as executive vice president and chief legal officer of First Solar, Inc. His role as attorney with the leading thin-film photovoltaic module manufacturer encompassed all aspects of corporate development, as well as government affairs.
In the M&A sphere, Mr. Gaffney has provided support across a variety of energy transactions. These include SB Energy Global Holdings Ltd.’s acquisition of several US solar power plants, representing 1.7 GW in total capacity, from Intersect Power, LLC. Active with the American and New York City bar associations, John T. Gaffney has been named a BTI Consulting “Client Service All-Star.”
